Case Manager Spotlight: Meet John Roberts

At SurfMed, we have the opportunity to work with case managers across Florida who dedicate their careers to helping patients and families get the care and resources they need. In our new Case Manager Spotlight, we want to introduce some of the professionals behind that work and share their stories.

This month, we are highlighting John Roberts, a UnitedHealthcare case manager in Jacksonville, Florida.

John has called Jacksonville home for 35 years and attended Edward Waters College, now Edward Waters University. More importantly, he brings an incredible 30 years of case management experience to the people he serves.

For much of his career, John worked with Early Steps, helping families with infants and young children from birth to age three.

“I loved it. When you are helping young families and their babies, you know you are making a difference,” John said.

Today, John works in Long Term Care and has been with UnitedHealthcare for the past year. While the population he serves has changed, he sees plenty of similarities in the work.

“It’s different, but it’s good. Same issues, just different ages.”

For John, one of the things that makes his experience with UnitedHealthcare special is the people around him.

“It’s the team I have. It’s great, it’s amazing,” he said. “My supervisor, I think he’s a great leader. He likes helping people think.”

John also had some kind words about his experience working with SurfMed.

“I love SurfMed. I send you all my clients because you get it done, no problems.”

After three decades in case management, perhaps the best part of John's story is that his passion for helping people has not changed.

When we asked whether he is doing what he wants to do, his answer was simple:

“Yes, I’m doing what I love!”
